BANGKOK (NNT) - The government disbursed over 350 million baht in financial rewards to medalists from the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, including their coaches and associated sports associations. The ceremonious distribution, led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin at Government House, amounted to 353.925 million baht in total.The Thai athletes delivered a strong performance in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, securing a total of 58 medals and an eighth-place finish overall. Meanwhile, their counterparts in the Asian Para Games clinched 108 medals, achieving seventh place.As per the National Sports Development Fund’s (NSDF) reward policy, the athletes received substantial sums: two million baht for a gold medal, one million for silver, and 500,000 for bronze. Coaches and sports bodies also received financial incentives, with the total for the Asian Games athletes reaching 244.20 million baht.The Takraw Association of Thailand emerged as the most successful sports body at the Games, obtaining the lion’s share of 86.80 million baht for four gold medals. Other associations such as the Rowing and Canoeing Association and the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand were also significant beneficiaries, receiving 44.45 million and 8.25 million baht, respectively.In addition, the Asian Para Games athletes were awarded a collective sum of 109.725 million baht, following a similar reward structure.Srettha, expressing his avid interest in sports, assured that the government is committed to financially supporting athletes who uplift the nation’s reputation through their achievements. He further pledged to advocate for enhanced financial rewards for both able-bodied and disabled sports talents.
